Shyan Selah has over 20 years of experience as a Creative Artist, Entrepreneur and Youth Advocate. He is a descendant of a family with a long history of Civil Rights Activism and Live Performance of the Arts. This Federal Way native is a former All American athlete who excelled as a Nationally recognized All-Star in football, basketball and track and field. A graduate of Federal Way High School, Shyan earned a full ride scholarship to attend college and play football in the Big Sky Conference at Eastern Washington University. He rounded out his educational and sports journey at Central Washington University as a triple major (Sociology, Psychology, Theology) who played RB for the 1995 NAIA National Championship team and has since been inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.
While in college Shyan began developing his passion for writing, recording and performing music. This desire drove him to the Mecca of entertainment in Hollywood CA where he developed a reputation based on his work ethic, talent and desire. Shyan immediately began working as a Model, Actor and Recording Artist landing appearances on MTV, ESPN and FOX while touring internationally and developing his brand. It was while studying entertainment legal books and working on his laptop on the set of The Wayan’s Bros, (WB) where Shyan made an impression on producers, agents and managers. He negotiated and signed his first record deal with N’Focus Entertainment/EMI in the late 90’s with famed producer Mark Hill (Babyface, Madonna, Mariah Carey), which ignited his passion for business, and has since gone on to do a multitude of deals including some with industry powerhouses House of Blues, WEA, SONY, and Universal Music. As a Creative Artist Shyan has performed, recorded or produced with the likes of Pink Floyd, DMC, Seal, KRS ONE, Robin Thicke, and many more.
He’s the New Age artist, he’s a trendsetter, he’s a HOT ARTIST. He’s everything you love about music, and nothing you’ve ever seen before.” – Kevin Black – former President of Urban Music at Warner Bros. and Sr. VP at Interscope
Shyan, a devout entrepreneur and advocate of business culture, has carved out a unique presence in the world of Youth Outreach. Taking his own personal story – first as a black student athlete growing up in the Northwest, to education, to music and then to business – and using it as a blueprint to consistently deal with youth at the most critical levels, Shyan has provided powerful sessions that have rocked college, high school, middle school and corporate audiences dealing with high impact issues that range from bullying, gang violence, sports and entertainment, civil rights, black history and a myriad of other socially relevant topics plaguing the culture at the education and corporate levels. His blend of live performance, cultural diversity and economic intimacy have made him one of the most sought out speakers/advocates in the region. Although Shyan has brought his message to countless high schools and colleges over the years on various college campuses, his work has been most prominent in his hometown of Federal Way for middle school and high school youth. As such, he’s received the School Board award in 2014/15 and the Federal Way School District HERO award in 2015/16 and 2016/17.
Shyan is the Founder/CEO of Brave New World – a boutique music, entertainment, brand development and outreach company operating out of Seattle and Los Angeles. He is a partner and board member of two tech development companies and serves as a board member to The KING AWARDS, an official organization based on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC. In January of 2019 he was also named Education Chair for the NAACP – Seattle-King County Chapter. His business endeavors have given him the opportunity to work in unique and viable alliances with industry powerhouses such as Apple, INgrooves, The Orchard, ASCAP, BMI, NBA, NFL, MLB, AMAZON, Youtube, Facebook, and others. Shyan’s current multi-media campaign is called “The Cafe Noir Project” in association with Starbucks which began in 2012 at the 23rd and Jackson Community store and has since branched out to a global experience with the Coffee giant including a Live Album, Book and Film. Subsequently, and right in stride with Shyan’s unique perspective on outreach, he then created a branch program called “Coffee With The Principal” which is held at both Starbucks and Barnes & Noble locations and recognizes young readers who are improving and excelling in reading comprehension. No slouch on diversity and inclusion Shyan has also created special field trip opportunities for male students of color to these businesses and institutions he’s in partnership with.
Through the Shyan Selah Experience, it is his mission to continue to bring dynamic and inspirational experiences to South King County youth.
